HOW'S YOUR LIFE? Are you happy? Are you comfortable? Free? No? What's wrong? Not happy? Fed up? Anxious, worried? Uncomfortable, ill, cold, hungry? Do you feel trapped, alone, bullied, abused? Are you just hurting or is someone hurting you? No one has the right to hurt you. You have the right to enjoy your life and be happy. You have the right to feel confident and have the opportunity to reach your full potential. You have the right to be cared for and respected. In return you have the responsibility to not hurt others and to respect them. We all have rights and responsibilities but some people don't see it that way. Some people bully and abuse others and hurt them. It makes them feel powerful. But it makes the person being hurt feel all sorts of things, everything except powerful. Is this happening to you? Who is hurting you? Is it someone in your family? Someone at school or at work? This happens a lot. You are not the only one. It is not your fault. There are many ways to get hurt. You can be hurt physically by being hit, punched, kicked, squeezed, attacked in any way. You can be hurt sexually by being touched, watched, forced to do things you feel are wrong or you don't understand, even by being photographed. You can be hurt by being neglected. Not enough food or the wrong sort of food. Not enough clothes or the wrong sort of clothes. Being left cold and hungry and uncared for. You can be hurt by being ignored, shouted at, put down all the time, being called horrible names, being made to feel small and silly, being told you are wrong or stupid. All these ways of being hurt may give you unhappy or desperate feelings. If you are hit and get bruised, the bruise will heal. But your feelings take much longer to heal and you could be hurting inside long after the bruise has gone. Try to have courage. Try to talk to someone you trust and tell them how you feel. If you want to contact us to talk in confidence, see our page Contact Details. You can find helplines in the phone book too like the Samaritans or Childline. |
