Lindsey’s 10 Questions for Users During Covid-19 4608 2064 samuel_admin

Hi all,

I’m Lindsey (or Linds for short) and I’m the Drugs & Alcohol Worker at Yellow Door.

There has been a lot of talk online around how the recreational drug scene has been affected by COVID-19. For instance, users have indicated increased patterns of cannabis use and a decrease in cocaine use. Supply has been affected by the pandemic as a result of effective Police action and the loss of the party scene. There is lots of info out there to read.

If you are using or are considering using drugs over the pandemic, first give yourself a moment and consider these 10 questions. Sit down, get comfy and take the time to think them over.

HOW ARE YOU FEELING?
Our emotional state can create more of a negative buzz when using in the wrong mood.

WHAT ARE YOU USING?
As a user, you will be aware that there are always risks – but with smokable products, there is now the added risk of increased COVID-19 effects on your lungs.

HAS THE AMOUNT YOU USE CHANGED?
Using more increases the body’s tolerance – increasing the dosage needed to get the same experience.  A Higher dose has higher risk.

HAS THE FREQUENCY OR TIMES YOU USE CHANGED?
More time on your hands may lead you to start using earlier in the day or on days you overwise wouldn’t have.

HAS THE QUALITY, PRICE OR EFFECT CHANGED?
The supply market has never been a customer care industry, in difficult times of supply and distribution comes the heightened risk of a poor product, dangerous cuts, and hikes in price.

HAVE YOU CHANGED SUPPLIERS OR METHOD OF PURCHASE?
You may be at greater risk of robbery or arrest.

HAS THE COST OF YOUR USE AFFECTED OTHER PARTS OF YOUR LIFE?
It’s easy to neglect the important things such as bills and budgeting when money is low, even easier to just hide from it and get high.

HOW IS YOUR USE AFFECTING PEOPLE AROUND YOU?
Those close to you see changes that you may not have noticed. If someone close to you says something, it’s because they care.

DO YOU FEEL IT IS BECOMING A MAJOR PART OF GETTING THROUGH THE DAY?
Just have a think, maybe a chat with someone you trust. Most of all – be honest with yourself.

HOW IS YOUR GENERAL HEALTH?
Does anything feel mentally or physically different? Seek advice. It’s free and confidential through your GP, helplines such as FRANK (talktofrank.com – 0300 1236600) or our youth hub line – 01268 683431.

I’m available by phone and online through the Yellow Door Facebook page if you would like more advice or 1-to-1 support. Call 01268 683431 or visit facebook.com/cypyellowdoor.

Thanks for reading and stay safe,
Lindsey
